LACMA

The LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art,) located near Hancock Park and the La Brea Tar Pits, has an extensive collection of historic and contemporary fine art photography. Their catalog of over 15,000 photographs includes the works of Robert Mapplethorpe and Edward Weston. Only a small portion of the collection can be displayed at any given time.

The LACMA’s Wallis Annenberg Photography Department has hosted various seminars on the history of photography, including in conjunction with local universities. Wallis Annenberg and the Annenberg Foundation in support of photography has donated over 3,500 photographs to the museum. These include major works by Ansel Adams and Julia Margaret Cameron.
